Editor,
I would like to thank Soroptimist International of Polson and all those who support their organization for the Violet Richardson Award scholarship that I received at their recent awards banquet. As part of this scholarship, which is based on volunteerism, soroptimists also made a donation to a charity of my choice. It was great to get a scholarship for my college fund, but it was awesome to also give me the opportunity to give a large amount of money to a worthwhile cause of my choice.
I volunteer as an aide at a two-week Girl Scout day camp each summer. Through the soroptimist award, I was able to send money to Chinook Day Camp to help fund some much-loved programs, like archery, that were in jeopardy of being cut this summer because money is tight. The camp staff (who are also all volunteers) were so happy. Some of their emails to me included: “This is truly an amazing accomplishment. It really shows what a special place the day camp is and how it inspires greatness!”
“It’s wonderful to see kids helping out with the very thing that they are so passionate about.”
“Thank you so much. We really appreciate the help/donation during these tough economic times.”
So thank you, soroptimists. Your goal of helping women and girls achieve great things together will be achieved at Chinook Day Camp this summer, in addition to the many other ways recognized at the awards banquet.
