There's nothing like breakfast together for a family and last weekend's were pretty special. Members of the Ronan community came together, along with some friends from Polson and Charlo, to share a pancake or biscuits and gravy with the members of the Ronan Volunteer Fire Department.
The Ronan Fireman's Breakfast was held at the Ronan Community Center on Saturday and Sunday and it turned into a family affair as folks came from all over the valley to enjoy a hearty breakfast. The event is the fire department's annual pancake feed fund-raiser that helps the crews provide fire protection service to town and rural residents in the Ronan area.
Though it takes thousands of dollars to put on such a big feed, along with a lot of 12-hour days by firemen in preparing for, cooking, serving and cleaning up after the breakfast, the generosity of the community more than makes up for the investment of time and food supplies. This was my second Fireman's Breakfast as a member of the fire department and I remain impressed by how much so many give above and beyond the $5 cost of the breakfast.
Pancakes and eggs, hash browns and sausage, and biscuits and gravy were served up from the crack of dawn to 3 p.m. on both days. Not only did the firemen contribute their time and energy to the cause, so did several of the members of the Ronan Ambulance Service.
Family members of the firemen also gave selflessly to the cause. Wives and children turned in a ton of hours on the serving line, at the sink and around the tables. Their smiling faces represented the department well as they dished out heaping spoonfuls of food.
We enjoyed sharing breakfast with you, even though it was more like a late lunch for some. Either way, we appreciate your thoughtful consideration.
After all, the members of the Ronan Volunteer Fire Department would much rather thank you for your generous support long before you need their help.
