The Easter bunny had lots of helpers around the Mission Valley on Saturday, April 3.

The ladies of the Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi cleaned, stuffed and hid close to 5,000 plastic Easter eggs on the beginning-to-green lawns at Boettcher Park. Businesses around Polson donated coupons, candy and quarters from First Interstate Bank to fill the eggs and provide an Easter basket loaded with goodies for one lucky child in each age group. The Easter bunny was available for photo opportunities, and the Betas passed out bright pinwheels. As usual the egg hunt began at 9 a.m., and all the eggs were nabbed by 9:02 a.m.

After the Beta egg hunt, many families headed straight to Linderman cafeteria for the Blessings and Baskets Easter event which began at 10 a.m. A line snaked across the playground at Linderman, around the school by the gym, across the parking lot and almost to the Lake County Courthouse. Nancy Hausermann, who put together the event, handed out about 480 filled Easter baskets to kids under 12. Kids also hunted for Easter eggs at 11 a.m. and played carnival games, such as a fish pond and a cakewalk, for a quarter. Adults hit the huge bake sale, too.

Young residents of the Dayton area grabbed a basket or a bag or, in one case, mom’s purse to search for 50 dozen real eggs, dyed beautiful colors, and some plastic eggs. The 5th Annual Dayton Park Easter Egg Hunt began at about 11 a.m. on a cold, blustery day. Since the weather was so bad, the committee decided to cancel most of the planned games. Kids could still hunt for money in the straw, and kids and adults alike could enter the Easter bonnet contest.

The Easter bunny strolled around, handing out plastic eggs. If the slip inside said prize, the recipient received a bunny or a carrot shaped bat with a ball or other cool stuff. Children signed up to win one of six big baskets, one with a $50 Wal-Mart gift certificate inside.

Despite cold weather and flurries in Ronan, the Easter Bunny delivered 1,200 eggs and a plethora of prizes to 600 Ronan children on Saturday morning.

Mission Mountain Enterprises Inc. hosted the hunt which was the 16th annual Easter Egg hunt on Saturday.

The Easter Bunny also handed out special gifts such as Frisbees, balls, bats, Barbie toys, paint sets, color pencil sets and action figures.

“It went really well,” MME Administrator Autumn Parmenter said of the event. “Dan Wadsworth came down and gave us the go signal.”

When it sounded, a swarm of children dashed into the circled area to swipe as many eggs as possible.

The plastic eggs contained prizes and certificate to be redeemed for different presents and prizes.

“We did have really great support from our sponsors,” Parmenter said. “(The sponsors) made it so that everyone got some neat prizes. That was really cool.”

The event was sponsored by local businesses and National Relief Charities, who donated gifts and prizes. There were also 20 local volunteers who helped local children have a very memorable Easter.
