Lady Vikings finish first at Dornblaser

The Lady Vikings track team put on a show for their supporters at Dornblaser Wednesday as they blew out the competition to earn a first-place finish at the meet.

Charlo compiled a whopping 121 points to beat the nearest competitor, Deer Lodge, by 16 and 1/2 points.

The points piled up quickly for the Lady Vikings as Charlo came away with top finishes in seven events at the meet while taking second in five more.

Aspen Runkel had an outstanding day for Charlo, earning first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 64.64 seconds, first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.04 seconds and second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.17 seconds (just nine one hundredths of a second behind teammate Rachel Hoyt, who won the event at 52.08 seconds).

Jordan Ludeman also made a strong showing at the meet, coming in first in the 800-meter run, second in the pole vault and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Other first-place winners included Rachel Hoyt, who won the 300-meter hurdles and Dawn Blevins, who won the javelin with a toss of 104 feet, three inches. Blevins was also second in the 1,600-meter run and Hoyt was third in the high jump.

Shaelyn Fell was second in the 100-meter hurdles for Charlo and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Charlo also picked up a pair of wins in the 400 and 1,600-meter relay events, including winning the 1,600-meter race by more than seven seconds.

The Lady Vikings were also in action at the large Missoula Invite Saturday, finishing 14th with 11 team points. Only two Lady Vikings placed at the meet as Blevins was third in the javelin with a throw of 114 feet, eighth inches and Runkel was fourth in the 400-meter run with a time of 63.78 seconds.

The Vikings had to settle for a fifth-place showing at Dornblaser Wednesday as Charlo finished with just 65 team points.

Chance Rosenbaum had the only individual top finish for Charlo Wednesday as he won the pole vault after clearing a height of 12 feet. The Viking 400-meter relay team also won its race by more than a half second, finishing in a time of 44.52 seconds.

Tra Ludeman had Charlo's only second-place finish of the day, finishing the 110-meter hurdles in 16.99 seconds. Austin Bauer was third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.66 seconds, Rosenbaum was third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.88 and the 1,600-meter relay team was third with a time of 3:54.82.

Elsewhere on the track for Charlo Wednesday, Rosenbaum was fourth in the high jump (five feet, six inches), Jacen Petersen and Webb O'Neill tied for fourth in the pole vault (10 feet), Brady Bloomquist was fourth in the 400-meter dash (53.75 seconds), Bauer was fifth in the 200-meter dash (24.56 seconds), Bauer was fifth in the long jump (18 feet, nine inches), Chico Stipe was sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.84 seconds), Petersen was sixth in the 800-meter run (2:22.07), Joel Lewis was sixth in the 3,200-meter run (13:27.11) and Ludeman was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (45.84 seconds).

The Charlo boys picked up 23 team points at the Missoula Invitational Saturday as the Vikings finished 13th.

Stephen Delaney had the top finish for Charlo, coming in third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.89 seconds and he was also third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.55 seconds.

Charlo's 400-meter relay team was fourth with a time of 45.42 seconds, Ludeman was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.03 seconds and Rosenbaum was seventh in the pole vault after clearing a height of 12 feet.

Charlo's track teams will be back in action Thursday at Corvallis.
