POLSON — Thousands of plein air artists around the world participated in the Worldwide Paint Out on Saturday, Sept. 10. Plein air simply means the painters work outside.
John Davis said 17 people in the Polson area signed up to paint during the day. The plein air painters met at Riverside Park at 9 a.m. and then scattered around the city and countryside to find a perfect outdoor scene to paint.
Joann Sleadd, Kalispell, and Connie Ottey, Creston, chose Boettcher Park as their location.
Sleadd faced the old nine on the Polson Bay Golf Course and painted a scene including trees, the golf course, a golf cart and a couple of golfers. She has painted since she was six years old. Now retired she can paint more since she doesn’t have “to make a real living.”
Ottey said she is learning and has been painting for six years. Ottey stationed herself on the shore of Flathead Lake near some large cottonwood trees.
Sleadd, Ottey and the other painters gathered at 4 p.m. back at Riverfront Park to display their work.
Then Davis took photos to upload to the website ipap.homestead.com as other Worldwide Paint Out participants had done.
