Local hero Lance Corporal Tomy Parker made it back to Big Sky Country Wednesday evening.
Parker, who was severely injured in an IED explosion while serving with the Marines in Afghanistan in December, was welcomed home by friends, family and local media. A crowd of approximately 200 greeted him at Missoula International Airport.
Well-wishers lined the streets of many towns as Parker was escorted home by law enforcement and local veterans as the procession made its way north. Anticipation mounted in his home town of Ronan as Tomy's procession grew closer.
The entire county seemed to keep up with the event through Tomy's Facebook page, which kept community members updated on the progress of the procession.
As for Tomy, our local hero seemed to take it all in stride, as people flocked to the airport and to the streets to show their support and give him a warm welcome home.
Parker will attend a benefit in his honor Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Ronan Community Center. The event begins at 11 a.m. A spaghetti dinner and silent auction benefit are scheduled for the same evening at the Ronan High School gym.
