The Maidens put up a solid performance throughout the second half of their game against Whitefish at home on Thursday, something they have struggled with in the past.

Typically, the Maidens have started their games hot, and finished cold, however, it was the other way around this time, as the team only scored three runs in the first four innings, but rallied in the fifth and sixth innings to score 12 runs to take the win away from the Lady Bulldogs, as the team won 15-7.

The game started out slow for the team as Whitefish took a quick 3-1 lead after the first inning. Freshman Alaina Madsen began the game in the circle, yet, Bethany Colman replaced Madsen at the top of the third, and improved her pitching record to 3-6 with the win.

At the top of the fifth, Whitefish had control of the game, as they held a 6-3 lead over the team. All of a sudden, the entire team became hitters. Payge Delaurenti kicked things off with a double, and then Brittney Mock smashed the ball to the outfield, picking up the in-field homerun. The team now was only down a single run, with the bases loaded and no outs. They weren’t finished yet.

The team took the lead away with the help of Senior Katie Andrews’ single, which brought home a pair of runners, giving them an 8-6 lead. Lindsay Clairmont then stepped up and delivered a triple, which also drove in two runners. At the top of the sixth, it was a new game, as Ronan now had a comfortable lead at 11-6.

Andrews led the Maidens at bat, hitting 3-5, driving in five RBIs for her team, yet the entire team had a good day at bat. Marissa McCrea and Ashleigh Lynch also finished with three hits each, while Mock, Delaurenti, Madsen, and Clairmont all finished the game with two hits. Clairmont also drove in four RBIs against Whitefish.

The Maidens also traveled to Florence on Friday and Saturday to play in the two-day Frenchtown Invitational softball tournament. The team dropped their two early games, first to Florence, where the team lost 9-3, and then Loyola, 5-1. The team returned on Saturday to top Thompson Falls 11-6, but fell to Anaconda 9-4..

Against Florence, the Maidens jumped out to a 2-0 lead during the bottom of the third, but didn’t stay ahead long, as the Falcons tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth. The Maiden’s weren’t able to get back into the game, as Florence rallied to continue spreading the defecit with an additional five runs in the top of the fifth, with another two runs in the sixth to come away with a 9-3 victory.

Alaina Madsen threw the game for the Maidens, taking the loss in the circle.

Ashleigh Lynch led Ronan at bat, hitting 3-4, including a double, while Katie Andrews and Payge Delaurenti contributed one hit each.

For Florence, Hayley Cole led her team, hitting 2-3, while Cassandra Skeers and Hailey Huot both finished with one hit.

Things didn’t get much better for the Maidens as they then faced off with Loyola later that afternoon. Colman returned to the circle for Ronan, striking out seven and walking three. Breaker Sarah Goodman proved to be the better pitcher, limiting the Maidens to three hits and one run. Goodman continued her undefeated season in the circle, improving to 5-0.

Goodman kept the Maidens at bay, as she kept the team from scoring their only run until the bottom of the fourth, as the Breakers ran away with the 5-1 victory.

Loyola’s Laura Snook couldn’t be stopped, as she drove in all five runs for her team. Snook’s double in the third with bases loaded brought home three runs, to give her team an early 3-0 lead. Snook then slammed a two-run single in the seventh, to help her team take win.

Lynch, Andrews, and Robinson all contributed a single hit each in the loss.

Goodman also led her team at bat, hitting 4-4, while Snook went 2-4, and Kari Tirrell finished with one hit.

The team returned to Frenchtown on Saturday, as they faced off with Thompson Falls. The team showed up ready to play this time, as they exploded offensively during the second half of the game to win decisively, 11-6. It was a tightly contested match through the fourth inning, where the game was in the favor of Ronan, 4-3 at the top of the fifth.

The Maidens would increase their lead by one run in the fifth inning, but the Bluehawks clawed their way back as they put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 5-5.

All of a sudden, the Maidens broke the game wide open with a five run seventh inning to secure the 11-6 victory.

Madsen picked up the win in the circle, as she allowed seven hits and five walks, along with five strikeouts.

McCrea finished the game with three hits, and one RBI, while Lynch also picked up three hits for Ronan.

Kayla Stark led the Bluehawks with three hits, while Sandra Shafer and Shannon Saint added one hit each. The Maidens will host Columbia Falls on May 5, and then a doubleheader against Corvallis and Hamilton at home on May 7. Box scores for the game against Anaconda were unavailable at press time.
