LIVINGSTON – The Pirates toughed out their first week of play with a couple of losses on the road.
On Friday the Pirates faced Park in Livingston, falling 1-5 in the season opener.
“This was our first game of the season and Park’s third,” Head Coach Jess Kittle said. “We played a strong first half but our legs started to tire in the second half and Park was able to take advantage.”
With the assistance of Mike Mercer, Andrew Hanson scored the lone goal for Polson.
On Saturday the Pirates hopped over to Belgrade to take on the Panthers. Though the Pirates failed to outscore Belgrade, leaving with a 1-3 loss, Kittle believes improvement is being shown stating the goal off of Morgan Molls’ head, assisted by Ben River, was the only goal given up by the Panthers in Belgrade’s first four games of play.
“Our passing game has improved tremendously since our first game against Park,” Kittle said. “Now we will need to work on getting more shots in the goal and eliminating defensive miscues that have led to opponent’s goals in our first two games this season.”
The Pirates will stay on the road making stops in Frenchtown Sept. 11 and Whitefish Sept. 16.
