Dayton Daze to resurrect ‘The Roaring ‘20s’

DAYTON — In January 1920, the Volstead Act closed every tavern and saloon in the United States, forcing the liquor industry to go underground. Although it wasn’t prohibition that brought on the unfortunate closure of the Idle Spur restaurant and bar in Dayton, organizers of the annual Dayton Daze want the community to know the event is still alive and well.
The fundraising event for the Chief Cliff Volunteer Fire Department will take place at Dayton Park on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
This years’ theme, The Roaring ‘20s, will likely fill the parade and streets with costumed flappers and “gangsters” celebrating jazz, gin, women’s right to vote and the invention of radios, refrigerators and Model T Fords.
The event revs up at 10 a.m. with a car show, craft booths, silent auction and rifle raffle followed by a 3 p.m. parade and children’s games. A costume contest, barbecue and live music begins at 4 p.m. Participants in the parade can win cash prizes for entries.
