Ronan fire crews escort Santa on special delivery

Charley Rathbun happily accepts a gift from Santa Claus, who visited him last Tuesday evening. Santa was escorted by the Ronan Fire Department aboard a fire engine. Each year, RFD firefighters donate to the Ronan Firemen's Christmas program to buy presents for local children.
RONAN — Twas three nights before Christmas and all through the town, so many creatures were stirring you'd think there was a fire somewhere, for crying out loud.
The Ronan Fire Department escorted a very special visitor to the valley to some very special homes last Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
Firefighters gathered at Station One in Ronan during the early evening of Tuesday, Dec. 22 to meet Santa, who made a special early trip to the Mission Valley to deliver presents to "good little boys and girls." The fire crews provided an escort with three fire trucks — Santa parked his sleigh at the fire hall and rode in Engine One.
Presents were delivered to a select group of children in Ronan and Pablo. With emergency lights flashing, children scurried out of their homes with parents in tow to see what was the matter. ...........

Charges filed in Nov. 25 hit-and-run

POLSON — Charges have been filed against Jonas Buckman, 27, of Polson, in a hit-and-run incident on Turtle Lake Road at about 8:50 p.m. on Nov. 25. A 16-year old girl was hit in the incident. Buckman has been charged with negligent vehicular assault, a felony, and accidents involving death or personal injuries, a felony.
Buckman was driving a 1992 Dodge Dakota pickup when he allegedly hit the victim, a 16-year-old girl. The girl, her bike and five other kids were off the east side of the road in the grass, between Turtle Lake Road and the fence, so Buckman would have had to cross both lanes of the road to hit the victim according to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Shad Andersen........

Parade of Lights illuminates Ronan

Sparks loft up from the bonfire held at Bockman Park after the Parade of Lights in Ronan.
RONAN — The holiday season was on display in downtown Ronan Wednesday as members of the community put on a brief but brilliant display on Main Street.
Floats lit up Main Street from St. Luke’s Hospital to Bockman Park as part of the Parade of Lights Wednesday evening.
A trio of veterans served as honor guard and paraded the nation’s flag at the head of the procession.
Close behind the honor guard was the Fisher Family float, which displayed a “Pirate’s Christmas” with a dressed up boat.
O’Leary’s Old Ladies followed with Santa at the helm. The ladies were dressed festively as colorfully adorned Christmas presents.
A family float of a children on hay bales followed, then a story time Christmas float .......

Commissioners consider community center sale, plan Jan. 5 meeting

POLSON — The Lake County Commissioners announced they will hold a public meeting next Tuesday to hear from the public about the idea of selling the Ronan Community Center/Extension Office.
The meeting will be begin at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, in the commissioners' office in the Lake County Courthouse in Polson, located at 106 4th Ave. E. The Commissioners will accept written comments on the matter until the date and time of the meeting.
Comments may be dropped off at the Commissioners' office or mailed to: Board of Lake County Commissioners, 106 4th Ave. E., Polson, MT 59860.
Several parties have expressed interest in purchasing the property and buildings. The local chapter of the Boys & Girls Club is hoping to acquire .......

Ronan shop fire promptly extinguished

Ronan firefighters attempt to close sliding doors of the shop that caught on fire Monday afternoon. There were no injuries and minimal damage to the maintenance/junkyard shop belonging to Leroy Lake.

RONAN — There were no injuries on Monday when a shop caught on fire northeast of Ronan on Old Highway 93. The former junkyard and maintenance shop caught fire due to undetermined causes, but fire officials suspect it was related to the shop's wood stove.
Leroy Lake, owner of the property called 911 shortly after the wood stove caught fire a little after 3 p.m. The emergency dispatcher then dispatched the Ronan Fire Volunteer Department.
According to Ronan Fire Chief Mark Clary, fire crews arrived within five minutes of the call.
Clary said the damage to the structure was minimal, and the firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes.
