Arlee celebrates the holidays with Christmas Extravaganza

ARLEE — The community of Arlee was in for a special treat last Thursday as 250 students from Arlee Elementary School performed a festive Christmas pageant for their families, neighbors and friends.
The Christmas Extravaganza wasn’t just a jolly event full of Christmas cheer, but a chance for the students to show off their musical talents learned throughout the year.
Music teacher and director of the Holiday Extravaganza, Brandon Ensley demonstrated his students’ musical abilities with a multitude of different instruments that progressed in complexity as the night wore on.

International Stroll offers entertainment, food and shopping in Polson

zerbaijan, Bavaria, China, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, North Pole, Russia, Scandinavia, South Pole and the United Kingdom — all these countries were represented either by food or cultural objects or both on Friday, Dec. 18. That’s the day the Polson Business Community (PBC) hosted its first International Stroll in downtown Polson from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Shamrockers were singing at Quinn’s Wrap Shack and had gathered quite a crowd of music lovers. To complete its Irish theme, Quinn’s offered corned beef and cabbage dip as well as Christmas cookies and treats.

Toys for Tots makes Christmas brighter

Ed Holland is a familiar sight around the Mission Valley as he brings jars and boxes to businesses to collect cash and toys for Marine Toys for Tots. A former marine, Holland is the local Marine Toys for Tots coordinator.
Although Holland delivered the boxes and donation jars in late November, he really started working on the project in September, right after the Marine Toys for Tots conference. Donated money was funneled through Marine Toys for Tots and turned into a debit card for Holland to buy toys. Toys R Us gives Marine Toys for Tots a very good deal on toys so Holland traveled to Spokane, Wash. to purchase toys. .......

Charlo community celebrates with Christmas performance

CHARLO — The Charlo gymnasium was packed on Monday night as the community gathered to watch schoolchildren perform in their annual Christmas concert.
Parents and grandparents, armed with cameras and smiles, awed over the Christmas performance and their festive students.
The concert included traditional Christmas carols and a special performance by the fifth grade band.
The band opened for the concert, playing “Up on the Housetop,” “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas” and “Jingle Bells.”
After the band performance, the entire elementary stood and sang in unison “Deck the Halls.”
The small kindergarten class took to the risers first with another “Jingle Bells,” “Toyland” and “Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer.” They were followed by.......

Ronan students present spirited Christmas concert

Since the end of October, K. William Harvey students have been practicing Christmas carols weekly leading up to their Christmas Concert.
On Monday, the 390 students were given the opportunity to spread holiday cheer and to show off their musical talent in the Ronan Performing Arts Center at their annual Christmas concert.
The concert began at 9 a.m., when the third and fourth grade classes performed a mixture of traditional and non-traditional tunes, accompanied by percussion instruments. “Deck the Halls” featured pianist Ingrid Taylor and “The Chipmunk Song” included vocal soloist Laurencia Starblanket.

POLSON — John Campbell was elected by the Polson City Commissioners at their Dec. 21 meeting to finish out Commissioner Jim Sohm’s term. Sohm submitted his letter of resignation as of Jan. 4, 2010, at the Dec. 7 meeting. Besides Campbell, the commissioners also received letters of interest from Roland A. Godan, Lou Marchello and Donald J. (Donnie) Smith.
The commissioners tabled a motion to authorize Polson City Manager Todd Crossett to negotiate and purchase the Meridian Building.
They also tabled an agenda item dealing with the golf course food and beverage and the all beverage alcohol license.
Both issues will be brought up again at the Jan. 4, Polson City Commission meeting.
The commissioners voted to approve a three-year golf pro contract for Roger Wallace/Links Management.
